Rafting town before Munich - Isar, Bad Tölz

Munich’s lifeline is and has been the river Isar. It runs from the Karwendelgebirge around 300 km to the north and flows into the Danube in the city of Deggendorf. This fourth largest Bavarian river was once used as an important trade route by the raftsmen. We will follow the Isar for some time from Bad Tölz to Munich.

The 5th largest lake in Germany - Starnberger See

The Würm, 35km long, is not only a river between the Lake Starnberg and the river Amper but it also is an eponym for the last big glacial in the Alpine forelands: the Würm – glacial period. It ended around 10.000 years ago and left us the Lake Starnberg, the lake Ammer (Ammersee) and the wild and romantic Würmtal (the Würm valley).

Munich's Lakes

Idyllic lake in the north - Fasaneriesee, Munich

When you are fed up of swimming in an artificial pool:  Munich and its surroundings offer a lot of ways to cool down:  deep blue quarry ponds and ice cold and transparent lakes with vast lawns for sunbathing and lakes with heavily vegetated riversides. You will want to jump in each and every one of them.

View of the formerly named Würmsee lake - Starnberger See

Lake Starnberg is one of the most popular places to visit for Munich’s natives. They will go there for a swim, a boat ride or grab a bite to eat at the local fish restaurant. They will enjoy the beautiful landscape and explore Starnberg’s history on foot and, of course, like us on a bicycle. Everything there is surrounded by a perfect forealp scenery.

Great tour! We had a group take part in the Munich's Hotspots bike tour in June. Thoroughly enjoyed the route and the guides were very knowledgeable! Highly recommend. Thank you!

Manfred is the best guide you could wish for. We were 6 women from Europe and had a fantastic 2 hours through Munich with wonderful weather. Manfred was super flexible and agreed to reschedule twice, which was incredibly accommodating. And then we were late and he was happy and relaxed and we had a lot of fun and learned something about Munich. If you're cycling sightseeing, then with Manfred! Your rock.
